On September 7, 2024, after passing through China’s Hainan Island, Tropical Cyclone Yagi intensified into a super typhoon, making landfall in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong City in Vietnam at 13:45 local time.

It triggered widespread flooding, flash floods, and landslides, causing severe damage to roads, bridges, and buildings, uprooting trees, and disrupting electrical and telecommunication networks.

Despite weakening into a tropical depression, Yagi continues to cause extended periods of heavy rainfall, leading to ongoing flooding and landslides across 26 provinces, including Viet Nam capital city of Hanoi.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, a devastating flash flood swept through the remote Lang Nu village in Lao Cai province, northern Vietnam. The flood buried the entire hamlet under mud and debris, resulting in over 100 casualties, including 48 confirmed deaths—more than 10 of whom were children. Lang Nu was one of the hardest-hit areas, illustrating the widespread destruction Yagi left across northern Vietnam, where flash floods and landslides continue to pose severe risks.

I moved to the States in 2022. Now, just two years later, I'm sitting in my bedroom in Washington, watching a disaster unfold in the country where my heart still resides.

This isn't just some school project for me. It's personal. It's raw. Every death toll update, every image of destruction – that's my people suffering. That could've been my family, my old neighbors, my childhood friends.

This website is my way of shouting to the world: "Hey, look! These people need help!" I'm trying to bridge the gap between the world and America, hoping that by sharing real, honest information about what's happening, I can inspire people here to care, to act, to help.

To everyone back home in Vietnam: Stay strong. The world hasn't forgotten you. We're here, we're watching, and we're doing what we can to help.
